Academia 6: Revision Timetables
Hello my beautiful friends!
Today, as promised in my previous post, I am going to offer my advice regarding how to make a revision timetable.
I used two different revision timetables during my GCSEs and I intend to do the same at A-Level.
I featured the top timetable in my previous post. This is a holiday timetable, which I used during my Year 11 Christmas Holiday. In this timetable, I have put hour-long blocks of revision with thirty-minute breaks in between. However, I often did revision blocks of 3 or more hours with hour-long breaks for lunch and dinner. The extra break time compensated for unplanned activities I did during the day (e.g. visiting friends or family), so I was still able to complete my revision. It also enabled me freedom to do additional revision at the end of the day if I felt I needed it.
The bottom timetable is a term time revision timetable, which I used from around January to around April during Year 11. Again, I have put thirty-minute breaks in between revision slots to allow flexibility. In both timetables, I have scheduled in planned extracurricular activities; however, I have also scheduled school into my term timetable.
In both timetables, I tried to allocate time equally to all twelve of my subjects. Nevertheless, I often allocated more hours to maths and English over subjects such as PE and music since some subjects require more revision than others.
Importantly, I have scheduled in planned extracurriculars. I believe that it is important to continue extracurriculars and give yourself free time during exam season. Even if you do not participate in extracurriculars, schedule in time to read or watch TV. This is very important for your mental health and mood.
I created both of the above timetables on Excel, but from April in Year 11 I created and used a revision timetable on Get Revising, which is a website and app.
This website allows you to input exam dates, papers, extracurriculars and how long you'd like to revise subjects in total. Then, it generates a weekly revision timetable, which allocates revision time for different subjects and papers more effectively than any human could. The app is also useful since you can quickly check your revision timetable, as well as have a screenshot of your timetable as your phone's wallpaper as a reminder. I'd further recommend this website for its resources: past papers, notes, revision cards, mind maps, flashcards... It has so many good quality resources!
I hope this post has helped you with your revision timetable. Please contact me with any further questions!
My next post will be a Q&A, so please leave questions in the comments or in the comments on my Instagram post. The questions can be about anything: studying, mental health, friends, relationships, general life advice... Anything! 💓
