Academia 30: My Christmas Holiday Revision Timetable

Image
Hello my beautiful friends! Today I have decided to share my revision timetable with all of you. I aim to briefly discuss how I create my revision timetable and provide you with ideas regarding how much revision I aim to do. Hopefully, this will motivate both myself and all of you to revise. Please note, I may not complete all of the revision that I aim to complete and everyone revises for different durations. You may prefer to revise less or more than me, which is perfectly okay because this may be more appropriate for you. I have only created my revision timetable for the first week of the Christmas holiday because I have not received my work rota for the second week. I begin creating my revision timetable by inputting any work shifts and when I plan to go on a run. This provides a greater insight into how much time I have to revise in reality aside from other commitments. Then, I input revision slots for my subjects. I begin with the subject I feel I need to revise the most...

Academia 29: How to Revise during the Christmas Holiday

Hello my beautiful friends! It's nearly the Christmas holiday and, whilst Christmas is a time to relax, I know a lot of students have January mocks. My January mocks commence on Monday 21st January, so I will definitely be revising during my holiday. Hopefully, I will be sharing my revision timetable with you next week, but this week I will share my top tips regarding how to revise. Write a list of everything you aim to complete over the Christmas break.  Whilst you probably will not complete this list, you will be much more productive knowing exactly what you need to do. Be specific by writing down the papers you want to complete, flashcards you want to review, etc. Plan your revision around your Christmas activities.  As I am creating my revision timetable, I am inputting any events before allocating time to my subjects. This enables me to view exactly how much time I have to revise and I can allocate hours to subjects accordingly. Use all of the time you do have....

Chat 4: My "Alternative" Studygram Feed

Hello my beautiful friends! A quick disclaimer... Through this post, I am not saying any Instagram feeds are better or worse than others. I am not saying any Instagram feeds are "generic". I am not spreading hate regarding any feeds at all. This is simply my journey to developing a love for my own feed. Instagram is a form of expression and you should love your feed whatever way you express yourself through it. This post is explaining and slightly justifying my "alternative" Studygram feed. A lot of Studygram feeds are very aesthetic with a continuing theme and I am in awe of these accounts; however, this is just not me. My feed is, in my opinion, messier than these feeds and that is okay! During the early stages of my Studygram, I tried to fit in with the white and pastel colour theme many Studygrams follow because I love this aesthetic look. However, for some reason, I just couldn't keep this theme. My photos looked disjointed regardless of how hard I tr...

Academia 22: What's in my Sixth Form bag?

Image
Hello my beautiful friends! Here is the fourth (and final-ish) post in my Back2School series (don't forget to read my other posts: A Level Folder Organisation , Back2School Stationery Haul  and Sixth Form Clothing Haul )! This post is a classic 'What's in my bag?'! Next week's post will be about my Cambridge summer school experience (I am currently on this summer school), so stay tuned for that. I am using last year's Sixth Form bag because it is a good size and not damaged at all, so I felt I did not need to buy a new bag. I bought this Fiorelli bag from TK Maxx. In the front pocket of my bag, I keep my library card for my local university's library. My local university has a scheme whereby Sixth Form and college students can use the library to study free of charge. In one of the side pockets of my bag, I carry 'beauty' items, which include my Nivea lip balm and Body Shop spray. The main pocket contains my folder , p...

Academia 20: Back2School Stationery Haul!

Image
Hello my beautiful friends! Today I have decided to officially begin my Back2School series with a stationery haul! I do plan to reuse some stationery from last academic year, but I have only included new stationery in this post. All of the stationery included in this haul is from Ryman (I will include links for all of the items). If you are looking for new Back to School stationery, I recommend Ryman because they currently have a sale on all Back to School essentials and you get a 10% discount with UNiDAYS . The first item I bought were some  Zebra Ballpoint Pens  (pens are an essential and you always need more pens). Usually, I'm more of a Bic gal, but I have seen good reviews of Zebra (and these pens were cheaper than Bic), so I decided to try them out. I will let you know my opinion! Have you used Zebra pens? If so, what's your opinion? I bought a large clear pencil case as my main pencil case for this academic year. This was for two reasons: a) my current pen...

Academia 19: A Level Folder Organisation

Image
Hello my beautiful friends! In today's blog post I am prematurely starting my Back2School series with my A Level folder organisation tips and tricks! I have so many fun Back2School blog posts planned and some good ideas were suggested by my Instagram followers too. In fact, this post was requested when I asked my followers for blog post ideas on my Instagram story. There are so many different methods of folder organisation, so do not feel that my method is the only way. I just hope my organisation tips act as inspiration and help those transitioning into Year 12. Currently, I use 3 folders for each subject: a day folder, Year 12 subject folder and Year 13 subject folder. At the front of my day folder I have my timetable to ensure this is accessible (here's a sneak peak of next year's timetable, although my tutor period (Tu) slots have not yet been inputted 😉). Behind my timetable I have a divider for each subject (Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Econom...

Academia 18: How am I Preparing for Year 13?

Image
Hello my beautiful friends! In today's post I am going to summarise what I am doing over the summer holiday in preparation for Year 13 in September. I have decided that (hopefully) my revision over half term will be intense because a) I feel I have not studied to my full potential during Year 12 and b) I must prepare for my admissions test and (if I do get invited ) Oxford interview. Do not feel your revision needs to be as intense as this, yet I still hope this post is useful for inspiration and as a guideline. If you follow my Instagram , you will know I bought some notebooks from Tiger. I am using these for my revision over the summer holidays. I felt it would be useful to collate all of my summer revision, but I did not think my summer revision should be filed in my Year 12 or Year 13 subject folders, so these notebooks are a handy (and aesthetic) option. Whether you plan to do a lot of revision or minimal revision during your holiday, I recommend making a list of e...

Academia 17: My Year 12 Experience

Hello my beautiful friends! Today I have decided to write about my Year 12 experience. GCSEs are over and many Year 11s will be considering their next options (apprenticeship, Sixth Form or college). This post will cover both general and subject-specific aspects of Sixth Form. For reference, I take maths, further maths, physics and economics at A Level. Please mind the gap. The most common question for students going into Sixth Form is "Is there a big gap between GCSEs and A Levels?". The answer is yes. Unfortunately, Sixth Form requires a lot more work outside of lesson with both homework and independent learning (i.e. revision and wider reading); however, providing you use your free periods and stay on top of your work, stress-levels should remain low. Personally, I found the increased workload overwhelming during the first month of Sixth Form despite the fact that I was staying on top of work, but everyone is in the same position, so you will be absolutely fine if you...

Academic 14: Applying for Head Girl (Public Speaking Tips)

Hello my beautiful friends! Recently, I have been going through the Head Girl selection process at my school. For reference, this process consists of Being nominated for the position by a peer. Making a speech at a hustings. A student and teacher vote. The nominees with the most votes are interviewed by the Head Teacher and she decides the final Head Boy/Girl and Deputy Head Boy/Girl. I did my speech on Monday last week and the vote took place on Thursday and Friday. It would be an honour to be Head Girl; however, all of the candidates are wonderful girls, so I will not be disappointed if I am not appointed a position. Nevertheless, I thought it may be useful if I posted about how I overcame my fear of public speaking and what I included in my speech. I am a very anxious person, and thus I experience anxiety when public speaking. The main advice I will give is to just do it! The morning of the hustings, I strongly considered dropping out, but I didn't drop out and I sur...

Academia 13: Life Update/Oxford University Taster Tutorial

Image
Hello my beautiful friends! I am back for good (until Year 13 mocks 😉)! I have so much news, hence the "Life Update" part of the title... I attended a Taster Tutorial at Oxford University during half term, which is the heart of today's blog post. I had my Year 12 mocks last week. As many of you know, this was the reason for my inactivity on this blog and my Instagram over these past weeks. I am considering posting a results blog post or Instagram post, so let me know if this would interest you. I am currently going through the application process for Head Girl at my school, which may be the topic of next week's blog post. The application process involves public speaking (I did my speech today), so I may share how I bottled my nerves to do my speech as well as what I included in my speech. University open days are upcoming! I am attending Warwick, Birmingham, Imperial, Nottingham and Cambridge. Hot off the press, I have been offered a place on a University ...

Chat 3: Where was Monday’s blog post?

Hello my beautiful friends! As you may be aware, I did not upload a blog post on Monday. This is purely because I am quite stressed due to upcoming mocks and I’m busy revising for these Year 12 mocks, so I haven’t had time to write a decent blog post. Whilst my upcoming exams are only mocks, these exams largely influence my UCAS predicted grades for universities, hence why I am revising so thoroughly. My mocks finish on Friday 8th June, so I should begin regularly uploading blog posts again on Monday 11th June . I am so sorry for not uploading, especially to those in exam season who may be seeking advice; however, I hope you understand. I hope exams are going well for those in exam season. I am sending my love, please take time to relax and de-stress. I realise this post is only brief, but I felt I owed my followers an explanation. Much love! ❤️

Academia 12: Good Luck!

Hello my beautiful friends! I know many UK students (and students elsewhere) begin exams next week or in the near future: GCSE, AS, A Level, university exams, etc. This is a little note to say "good luck". Exam season can be a stressful time for everyone, but I promise that these exams will go so, so quickly. However, I urge you to not completely abandon your mental health for the sake of these exams. Revise hard, but equally take time away from revision during revision breaks to watch Netflix, read a book or do anything you enjoy. During my GCSE exams (here's a lil anecdote) I crossed exams off my exam timetable after I had taken the exam and I completely recommend this. It is so satisfying and enables you to appreciate how quickly exam season is passing. I would equally like to express that you feel overwhelming satisfaction and a huge sense of achievement when you walk out of your final exam (this feeling alone almost makes exam season worthwhile). As many peop...

Maths Stuff 1: Tomography

Image
Hello my beautiful friends! I have decided to start a new series on my blog called 'Maths Stuff'. For each post, I will research and outline a maths-related topic as well as provide resources for further reading. For those considering studying mathematics or a mathematics-related course at university, you can use this as a supercurricular activity. For those not considering anything mathematics-related whatsoever, I hope this is interesting nonetheless! I am creating this series to help both my audience and myself because this series will help my own supercurricular research and is something for my personal statement. Taken from en.wikipedia.org. Today's blog post is about Tomography. One of the lectures in my Cambridge Masterclass was about Tomography and I found it really interesting, so decided to research into it further. Tomography is "the study of geometrical properties and spatial relations unaffected by the continuous change of shape or size of figures...

Academia 11: My Cambridge Masterclass Experience

Image
Hello my beautiful friends! If you follow my Instagram , you may know I attended the Mathematics Masterclass at the University of Cambridge on Saturday (21/04/18). I had a lot of requests to share my experience of the Masterclass, so I have decided to write a blog post about it. All of my opinions about the day's activities are completely honest (and I hope you enjoy the photos). I travelled to Cambridge by train and the journey was very pleasant (not too crowded, decent facilities and a well-stocked refreshments trolley). The train journey lasted two hours, so I did some sixth form work and chatted to some other people I met on the train, who were also attending the Masterclass. As soon as I arrived a Cambridge, it felt like home. I note, this is the first time I have been to Cambridge. People say you get a 'gut feeling' when you sense a university is right for you and this was my gut feeling. Cambridge is busy with both modern and old features, which really a...

Academia 10: A Complete Guide to Choosing a University

Image
Hello my beautiful friends! I am currently looking at universities because I start applying to universities in September and the majority of university open days are during June and July. I have decided to write this blog post to outline what characteristics I am looking at whilst choosing my universities. Obviously, there are many other options aside from university including apprenticeships, foundation courses and work; however, I  have not looked into these options, so felt unqualified to talk about them. Nonetheless, I hope your find my perspective on choosing a university both useful and interesting. 1. Russell Group vs. Non-Russell Group A Russell Group university is a group of 24 research universities, which are viewed as the 'top' universities in the UK and are often favoured by employers. Therefore, if you are considering entering a competitive career, especially at a major company, attending a Russell Group may favour you. Reputably, these universities are co...

Academia 9: Study (and Eat) with Me

Image
Hello my beautiful friends! Today I have decided to write a combined 'Study with Me' and 'What I Eat in a Day' post inspired by a recent video from one of my favourite Youtubers, Holly Gabrielle (a second year Oxford student). This post took place on Wednesday 4th April. Breakfast For breakfast I ate banana porridge (containing a banana, oats and almond milk) with a nectarine and cinnamon and a green tea. I try to eat a healthy breakfast before a revision day with lots of fruit because I believe healthy food often leads to better concentration. Hunger pangs can be distracting, so I ensure my breakfast is wholesome and filling too! Morning Study Session At the start of each study day I ensure I have a full bottle of water. Staying hydrated is very important for concentration! Having a bottle of water ready at the start of the day prevents you procrastinating or wasting time later in the day to get water. I began my day reviewing some physics revis...

Academia 8: My Bullet Journal

Image
Hello my beautiful friends! Today's post is going to feature my April bullet journal spreads. I began my bullet journal this March, so April is my second month. I completely recommend making a bullet journal! I am not the most creative person, but I have found expressing my creative flare relaxing. Tracking your life daily enables you to live in the moment and be appreciative of each day, which leads to greater happiness. Of course, each month begins with a title page, which establishes the theme of the month. This month I decided to use a cactus theme because I'd been inspired by a similar theme on Tumblr. I recommend making a Pinterest board full of theme ideas to act as inspiration. My first spread is a finance tracker. A finance tracker is always the first spread because I believe budgeting is very important. Obviously, it is easy to track spending through online banking; however, I find physically writing down how much you spend on what more eyeopening. I use...
