Chat 1: Q&A

Hello my beautiful friends!

I reached out to you through my blog and Instagram, encouraging you to ask me questions. I have collated them in this blog post today and I hope this helps you to learn more about me.

How are you so good at these 4 subjects? It's difficult to find a girl who is pro-STEM subjects.
I am very passionate about women doing STEM subjects because STEM is still (unfortunately) a predominately male-dominated field. Both of my parents have STEM degrees and teach STEM subjects at an A-Level standard. My sister also did a mathematics degree and has become a very influential woman in finance. Therefore, I have been encouraged by my family to work hard at maths and sciences from a young age, which has lead to my strength for these subjects.

How many hours of revision do you do per day?
This varies widely on a day-to-day basis. I have 5 hours of home study periods per week (2 hours on Monday afternoon and 3 hours on Thursday morning), therefore I do revision during this time. After school I try to do at least 2 hours of revision per night, but at weekends and during holiday time my revision hours, again, vary widely. In my bullet journal, I have created a 'Study Tracker' and I may post this on my Instagram at the end of the month to give a better insight into my daily revision hours.

What job do you want when you are older?
I would like to work in finance, specifically the investment banking sector.

How are you finding your A-Level subjects?
I am really enjoying A-Level because you can focus on the subjects that you enjoy, in my case this is maths and sciences. Personally, I find further maths a lot harder than regular maths; however, since I have a long-standing interest in maths, I enjoy working hard at these subjects. Physics, similar to every science, is interesting because you gain a greater understanding of how the world works. Economics is also interesting because it is very current subject, so there are always news stories to read; documentaries to watch and books to wider read, which increase your understanding of the subject. Although physics and economics are my most content-heavy subjects, I find the workload manageable.

Which subjects do you enjoy the most and least?
I enjoy further maths the most because the concepts are very advanced and increase your maths knowledge more widely than regular maths. I enjoy physics the least because, although I enjoy sciences, I aim to study maths at university and go into the finance sector, so this subject is least relevant to my future.

How do you ensure your revision is effective?
I think the key to effective revision is consolidation of your knowledge. I use revision cards to learn the content, then do lots of summary and past paper questions to ensure I have consolidated my knowledge and have learnt everything. I think the 'blurting' technique is a good method for effective revision too because it enables you to identify gaps in your knowledge, therefore work at your weakest areas. I talk more about 'blurting' in this blog post.

I hope you have enjoyed having a greater insight into my life. Feel free to contact me with your questions anytime and I will be happy to answer them! 😊
