Chat 2: New Years resolutions, success or failure? (First Quarter of 2018)
Hello my beautiful friends!
So... I forgot to do a monthly update regarding my New Years resolutions as promised, so I've decided to review how successful they have been during the first quarter of this year. Can you believe we've complete one quarter of 2018 already?
1. Focus on my mental health.
This year I have definitely made progress regarding looking after my mental health. In January, I self-referred to counselling again and, although I am still on the waiting list, this shows I am making steps. Also, I have started opening up to my parents, who have supported me, and I have decided to do only what I want to do rather than what I have to do in my life.
2. Focus on the positive in my life.
I believe that the 'A Line a Day' spread in my bullet journal has aided this resolution. Writing down a positive thing about everyday has enabled me to appreciate even the smallest good things in my life. Without this spread, I believe this resolution would be largely unsuccessful.
3. Do daily yoga.
This resolution has been relatively unsuccessful. I have not stuck to yoga because I find it difficult to ground myself during yoga routines. Instead, I have started meditating using the Stop, Breathe & Think app, which I prefer. I currently meditate a few days per week and I hope to integrate meditation into my daily routine instead of yoga.
4. Sleep for 8 hours every night.
Getting sufficient sleep as a teenager is so, so difficult! I have been tracking my sleep on my Fitbit and I usually achieve 7-8 hours of sleep, which I deem sufficient.
5. Exercise for at least 20 minutes daily.
This resolution has been a success! Over the past few years, I have developed a routine of running for around 40mins most evenings, therefore integrating exercise in the form of running into my 2018 daily routine was easy.
6. Drink at least 2l of water per day.
I have started drinking a lot more water, which is a good thing! I try to drink 1-2 750ml bottles of water during the day as well as drinking additional glasses at mealtimes.
7. Spend less than 2 hours per day on my phone.
Well... this resolution has flopped! So much of my life is online, on my phone and on social media and it has been difficult to cut down on my phone usage. To aid this, I have created a 'Phone Time Tracker' spread in my bullet journal, which may help cut my phone usage throughout the rest on 2018.
8. Study for at least 2 hours per day.
I have managed to study for at least 2 hours on most days! When I am feeling unmotivated, this target is manageable, so I am encouraged to do 2 hours of revision even on these days.
9. Practice at least 1 musical instrument per day.
I am very busy with sixth form and other extracurricular activities, so my music practice has been variable. Recently, I have lost interest in music, so I have struggled to motivate myself to practice too. Next year I may give up all musical commitments aside from orchestra, choir and singing.
10. Read at least 10 pages per day.
I have read at least 10 pages (usually a whole chapter) most days. This has encouraged me to progress with my wider reading.
The success of my New Years resolutions has been variable, which is okay! How successful have your New Years Resolutions been? Let me know in the comments!
