Academia 31: My Year 13 Mocks Experience

Hello my beautiful friends!

I am super excited to be back blogging! This break from my blog has made me realise how much I love blogging. Consequently, I aim to blog throughout my A Level exams, purely to boost my mood and motivation during a heavy revision period. Fittingly, for my first blog post after my break, I am bringing you a diary-style blog post of my mocks experience...

21/01/19 Physics Paper 1
Physics is definitely my weakest subject, so I was worried about this paper, but the paper did go okay and I feel the way I understood & answered the questions exceeded my initial expectations. However, I am concerned by how easy I found it. Maybe I messed it up completely or the grade boundaries could be extremely high due to it being an "easy" paper. Either way, this paper only covered Year 1 content and I find Year 2 content much more difficult, so the Year 2 paper could see the downfall of my grade.

22/01/19 Further Mathematics Paper 1 and Mathematics Paper 1
I am super frustrated with myself. This morning I had Further Mathematics Paper 1, which was an okay paper (not too easy, not too tough), but I ran out of time and did not answer the questions to my best ability. I have been working hard on my further mathematics and feel more confident with the content, so I am disappointed that I did not show this improvement.

Mathematics Paper 1 was not any better. I felt unable to process some of the questions, so, again, did not answer the questions to my best ability. This is also disappointing because I love mathematics and do have good mathematical ability, I just did not prove it in these papers.

Throughout the day I have been feeling somewhat ill. I have felt sort of exhausted and unable to concentrate, so this may have affected my exams. Either way, I am still frustrated.

23/01/19 Economics Paper 1
This paper was okay (again, not too easy, not too tough) and I think I did well, but I don’t want to jinx it. There were a few questions that I was unsure about and I may have got these incorrect, but I’m proud of the analysis that I included in my two essay questions.

25/01/19 Mathematics Paper 2 and Economics Paper 2
This morning I had Mathematics Paper 2. This paper was a lot tougher than Paper 1 and I was more pushed for time. I did find it difficult, but I feel I did well given how pushed for time I was, so feel the paper was average.

I cannot predict how well I have done in Economics Paper 2. I feel that I answered the majority of questions well, although I am unsure regarding how well I answered a couple of short-answer (2/3 mark) questions and I had not covered what one of the questions was asking neither in class nor in revision. Also, I am fairly sure one of my essays was complete waffle (as in, get some syrup because this essay is waffle 😂)! I think that I have done okay, but not amazingly.

28/01/19 Physics Paper 2
Physics, particularly Year 2 content, is what I struggle with the most. Considering this, I think I did well in this paper. I feel that I did not do amazingly, but I did exceed my expectations. As with the majority of my papers, I did feel pushed for time, so maybe timing in all A Level papers is just generally more pushed than for GCSE and AS papers.

30/01/19 Further Mathematics Paper 3C/4C
This was not a disaster... I think that the questions were tough, but I did answer them well. I do not think I have shown my full potential in this paper, but it went well nonetheless.

I hope you have enjoyed this style of blog post, including my raw feelings & reactions, and found it interesting. I may do a mock results blog post too, so do keep checking back and follow my Instagram for updates. As well as this, I aim to do a "life update"-style blog post soon because I do have a few life updates regarding mental health, Sixth Form, universities, etc. and a blog post about my vegan life (a sort of belated Veganuary blog post). Please comment any blog post suggestions because I do aim to grow my blog this year.
