Chat 9: What I eat in a day as a VEGAN (belated Veganuary blog post)

Image
Hello my beautiful friends! Due to being vegan, I have decided to create a 'What I eat in a day' post in support of Veganuary, although this post very late. I hope that I can inspire some of you to try vegan meals through this post. I am definitely not the healthiest person and do not eat the most balanced diet, so please do not view this as an example of how to have a balanced vegan diet, but I wanted to keep this very realistic. Before breakfast, I always drink a big glass of water. For breakfast, I had toast with dairy free spread and jam, a pear (I usually have a banana, but we had none left) and a green tea. I used Pure spread because it was on offer when I bought it, but I usually use Vitalite because this is my favourite. For lunch I had a wholemeal bagel with more dairy free spread, Vivera veggie goujons (these are basically fish goujons without the fish) and some salad. Vivera is one of my favourite brands for vegan meat substitutes. It is definitely worth...

Academia 33: University of Birmingham Offer-Holder Day

Image
Hello my beautiful friends! Once you have received an offer from a university, you may be invited to an offer-holder day. This is similar to an open day, but is accessible to offer-holders only. I attended an offer-holder day at the University of Birmingham and have decided to give a review about it. What did I do? Was it a worthwhile event? Did it change my perspective on the university? I hope to answer these questions and more in order to advise you about offer-holder days. I attended this offer-holder day with my mum. To begin the day, we were provided with refreshments (the university was very hospitable, as you will find out later in this post) and able to talk to students & staff about the university. Following this, I was split up with my mum because the parents had a separate itinerary. I attended three talks, which lasted a total of 40 minutes altogether. The talks covered the course, teaching, student life (this talk was presented by current students) and ind...

Academia 32: My UCAS Experience

Hello my beautiful friends! I have decided to write a diary-style blog post about my UCAS experience. When I was starting Year 12, I remember feeling daunted by the UCAS process and unsure about what to expect. Eve Bennett, a revision Youtuber, uploaded a diary-style video about her UCAS experience, which was very helpful. Similarly, I hope to help some of you through this blog post about my own experience. 02/07/18 Today I started my UCAS application (I had a UCAS day at sixth form)! I filled in all of the relevant forms and completed the first draft of my personal statement. It was not as daunting as I thought it would be and the form itself did not take long to fill out... I'd advise that you do a few supercurricular activities to ensure you have subject-relevant things to write about on your personal statement (this makes the process so much easier). 26/09/18 There is a slight gap between my last entry and this one. During this time, I have redrafted my personal state...

Chat 8: Life Update (mental health, universities, organising my life and more...)

Hello my beautiful friends! Due to being very inactive recently because of my mock exams, I have decided to write a little life update for all of you. This life update will include both academic and general updates to my life. The first topic I would like to talk about is mental health. Recently, I have struggled with my mental health. I am taking steps to help my mental health, but I do not want to go into detail about these steps yet. Due to this, I feel I have slipped academically and not achieved my expected grades in my mocks (although I do not know what grades I have achieved until my mock results day on Thursday). The deterioration of my mental health has changed my view on what university I aim to attend. I have not received decisions from all of my universities yet (I am waiting for Imperial College) and I will post a "UCAS Experience" blog post once I do have all of these decisions, but I am currently favouring my unconditional offer from the University of Bir...

Academia 31: My Year 13 Mocks Experience

Hello my beautiful friends! I am super excited to be back blogging! This break from my blog has made me realise how much I love blogging. Consequently, I aim to blog throughout my A Level exams, purely to boost my mood and motivation during a heavy revision period. Fittingly, for my first blog post after my break, I am bringing you a diary-style blog post of my mocks experience... 21/01/19 Physics Paper 1 Physics is definitely my weakest subject, so I was worried about this paper, but the paper did go okay and I feel the way I understood & answered the questions exceeded my initial expectations. However, I am concerned by how easy I found it. Maybe I messed it up completely or the grade boundaries could be extremely high due to it being an "easy" paper. Either way, this paper only covered Year 1 content and I find Year 2 content much more difficult, so the Year 2 paper could see the downfall of my grade. 22/01/19 Further Mathematics Paper 1 and Mathematics Paper 1 ...
